Maiden transport and logistics awards launched

THE maiden Ghana Transport and Logistics awards (GLOTA), which seeks to honour excellence and outstanding achievements in the transport sector, has been launched in Accra.

The awards to be held on March 24, 2018, is aimed at enhancing efficiency, improve productivity, quality service and personnel in the transport sector.

It is being jointly organised by PR firm, Drive 5 Ghana Limited, in collaboration with Adams 360 and Eves media, Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Freight Forwarders (GIFF) and supported by Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

At the launch, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr Don Obilor, said the awards also sought to promote and attract private investments into Ghana's transport and logistics sector.

That, he indicated, was part of their commitment to supporting government's efforts to effectively tap into the vast resources available to the private sector to accelerate Ghana's development.

"Our duty as enablers of development is to create a system to reward and encourage more private participation in the various sectors of the economy, especially the transport and logistics sector, which draws a huge chunk of government's resources" Mr Obilor added.

He said the awards was targeted at logistics companies, freight forwarders, haulage companies, transport personalities/operators, courier companies and car rental companies.

As part of efforts to ensure integrity of the awards, a board of trustees headed by the Director of Legal Affairs at the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Mrs Emma Ocran, has been set up to provide direction and advice to the organising committee.

Other members of the board include: President of the Ghana Institute of Marketing (CIMG), Mr Kwabena Agyekum, and the General Manager of DDP outdoor, Mr Senah Vuley.

Award Categories
Categories for the awards include; Overall Logistics and Transport Excellence Award, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Year, Logistics Company of the Year, and Haulage Company of the Year.

Others include; Passenger Transport Company of the Year, Courier Company of the Year, Freight Forwarding Company of the Year, Innovation in Action Award, Safety Award, and Logistics and Transport Employer of the Year.

The rest are Allied, Service Provider of the Year, Socially Responsible Company of the Year, Car Rental Company of the Year, and Customer Focus Achievement Award. —GB
