The Faculty of Business Management at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has extended support to the Village of Hope Orphanage, also known as the CDH Children’s Home in the Central Region, as part of the faculty’s students’ week celebration.
The faculty, which is made up of Business Administration and Marketing students, donated items worth about GH¢5,000. It included groceries, toiletries, disinfectants and foodstuffs for over 200 children at the orphanage.
Speaking in an interview with the GRAPHIC BUSINESS on March 28, the Dean of the faculty, Mrs Fidelis Quansah stated that the humanitarian gesture was aimed at touching lives and embarking on community service as an institution.
“As part of our mandate as an institution, we are supposed to contribute to the community, so as a faculty, we know that we also have our bit to do... There were other options but we realised that this is an orphanage that really needed to be helped,” Mrs Quansah said.
She, however, added that upon visiting the orphanage, she was impressed with the state of the orphanage.
The Managing Director of the orphanage, Mr Kwaku Sarkodie stated that the orphanage had been enjoying support from corporate bodies and donor organisations over the years since its establishment in 1996 to steer operations.
“For our operations, we depend mostly on corporate bodies, individuals, groups and institutions that come and visit us just as you have done today for support.”
“Banks also sponsor our operations. For instance, Ecobank is currently sponsoring about 10 of our children at the tertiary level and that alone is taking a lot of our burden,” he said.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Village of Hope, Mr Fred Asare expressed profound gratitude to the management and students of faculty for their visit and kind gesture.
“We are very grateful for your kind gesture. We pray for God to increase whatever you have donated,” he said.
